Cool Cloud and a mystery for pilots.
Posted By: Damn Brit, 11-17-2008, 09:45 PM

I was taking shots at this cool cloud that was hanging over the bay. A mystery object appeared, it was too slow for a plane, could it have been a helicopter?

The first shot is taken at a shorter focal length to include the tower for some perspective.

The next four shots are zoomed to 300mm.

The mystery object appears in shot #3

continues through shot #4

and finally is about to go out of shot in #5

Very interesting photos Gary. I really like the first one as it does add some prospective to the shot... Almost looks drawn by a artist... Cool bud. JIMBO

looks like a plane with a contrail, the question is what are the times on theses shots? where they minutes appart or seconds appart... either or its likely a plane with a contrail at a great distance and altitude making it seem slower then it is and at such an angle to the setting sun the contrail may have appeared for a short time and then vanished due to the way the light hits it or doesn't hit it. during the sunset some clouds may look like they are 1 when in fact due to there being no contrast between them they're actually many clouds but due to the illusion we can't tell them appart and then the sun sets a little more and all of a sudden there is a new amazing display of the same clouds we thought were just 1 cloud.

Time elapsed over the three shots in which it appears was nine minutes.
Cloud was the same cloud, it was only a few miles away above the bay between Oakland and San Francisco.

Gary, I can't stop looking at them. What's the mystery object falling from the sky in all the shots? Could it be Jor-els son or maybe ironman?
I've seen many strange things in the sky too, but with no camera.

Well done mate. I like the colour too.

Interesting documentation Gary. The sky is a crazy color! I bet you caught a top secrete military object. You know there are lots of those in the sky in California, Arizona and Nevada.

hey Gary,

Is the colour of the sky due to the wildfires in California? Some funky stuff going on in those images there (I agree it is like area 51 stuff all over again LaRee ...)

Very nice colors. I liked the reddish color very much.

It's like a painting. The cloud looks as if it's made by a fast brush stroke
Almost abstract. Very nice.

The first cloud is a dispersed contrail, and the other two objects are both aircraft at height and some distance.

I can see contrails of aircraft 200kms away from my place in the early morning light at those sorts of angles above the horizon.

They do make for interesting effects.

Very nice photos and colours. As for the 'object', Gary I have told you before not to consume all your stash until the rolling papers are gone, all in one evening. Pace yourself man and the hallucinations will calm down!

I agree with Jimbo. Only I think it looks like modern art. What a fabulous shot!
I like the mysterious element too. Could it be a meteor?
