Magic of Winter
Posted By: JMR, 11-18-2008, 09:25 AM

The magic of winter is of course its transforming quality. It can sometimes (with snow) be used to mute all things or be used to enhance contrast. Love this result and it is much better in large format. Of course the original is fairly good too. Love the farmers and horses who left behind a few apples too. The blue areas are shadow which I have chosen to leave as I believe they enhance the Winteriness of the scene.

Your pictures look more like a painting, and I like it.
Though, it would be nice to see an actual picture next to it to compare.
Also, what process do you use to do that?

That is beautiful JMR, I've been enjoying your series immensely and this is one of the best yet.

That's really pretty JMR, although the colours are muted, they still pop in the picture.
Might I suggest a little crop on the left?

Sure, why not. I was thinking of cropping on the left anyway but thought I would show as is with just the Orton effect. Thanks Gary for your interest.

This is the same Orton technique that we have been discussing for a while now on the forum. See my old posts and also Craftsmansky latest post. See the sites below for examples and explanations.

Thanks Scott and Gawan, I was both surprised and elated on how well the white image translated into a watercolor like painting.

Here is an example, of a before and after shot mostly for YJD and those interested in Orton. I think they are both good images in their own right. And sometimes I post both on my website.

Thank you JMR, I appreciate that!
I search on the forum and found a few people talking about it.
I'll have to give a try!
