Portraits from todays day at school with the 43mm f/1.9!
Posted By: Lovold, 11-18-2008, 09:45 AM

I brought my flash and camera to school today. Had some fun model flashing my friends till they laid rolling on the ground in seizures (no of course I didn't, I'm a good friend!), then I tried taking some shots. I was pretty surprised how easy it was to get a pretty good-looking portrait, just shooting with bare flash! Flash in the left hand, camera in the right, I took a few.

I really like the first shot. Nice light and the way the two subjects are set up. Great look on the closer subjects face/eyes.

The second is not too bad but the thing off his right cheek is a real distraction.

The last I'm not a fan of. Don't much like the under chin light and the way it highlights the skin blemishes.

I prefer the first shot aswell, I think it has a pretty cool mood to it.

For the second shot, I agree its quite distracting. All these shots were made in the hallway in my school, and there are alot of closets enclosed with locks there, and that's one of those locks by his chin

by the way - these shots are really casual, no setup or anything. I just went up to their faces with my flash and the 43mm and improvised, haha ^^

Damn Brit

I agree, the first shot is a nice portrait.
The second one, I can't see.
The third one could be blackmail material.

Wow that kid's eye is amazing. Love the third, the blueness of his eye just pops right out. I would just clone out his whiskers on his lip.

hahahaha, it's so funny that you mention his untidy facial hair-growth, we actually like to tease him for that (he shaves like once every month, LOL). but i feel that it's a part of his personality so therefore i won't clone them away unfortunately 8)
