Macro work
Posted By: Warped, 11-19-2008, 05:42 PM

The monthly theme for my local Club's November meet was Macro.

I managed to win Macro last year with this shot:

Was surprised to win Macro again this year with this one:

The water drops on the flyscreen took a lot of trial and error in set-up, camera settings and lens to use and playing with light (ended up moving the whole rig outside and shooting in natural daylight).

The bubble shot was "Crap, I've got nothing to submit and pics are due tonight ...... Emma (my 4yr old daughter), come here and blow some bubbles!".
5 minutes later I had a shot that was OK, but not ecstatic with, so was very surprised to get the win with it.
Sigma 4.0 APO DG Macro 70-300 lens used at around 240mm,
Macro setting on the camera,
external flash on the camera with a bounce card at around 45 degrees and,
an old, small sunpac flash with remote light sensing trigger firing directly at the bubbles/Emma 90 degrees to the direction of shooting.

Black background is my reflector propped up on a couch.
