Ma meilleure photo jusqu'à maintenant de cet oiseau difficile d'approche !
Il a fallut sortir la chaloupe pour s'en approcher.
==========
My best photo so far of this challenging bird to approach!
I had get out with my boat to get closer.

Fantastic capture! I have tried several times to photograph Belted Kingfishers, and they have never let me get close enough for a good shot.

Nice. It's hard to get close enough to a kingfisher for a good shot.

Thanks misters!

Actually, I spotted that guy a couple days ago on that small river (photo below)

Martin-pêcheur d'Amérique / Belted Kingfisher [Megaceryle alcyon]

and yesterday we (me and my spouse) wanted to get out with our small boat (12ft + electric motor) to get additional photo opportunities... and frankly, I had some hope to see that guy again.

We went that way, and didn't see any kingfisher, so we continued our route... but when we were coming back, I could see him at this same exact spot from far away...

We saw him flying around and "jumping" in the water in a many occasions... I am sure he wasn't fishing.

I think he was taking some sort of a bath, and then went on that branch, and started cleaning his feathers or "preening"... (this is a new word for me, taken from the link below)

Preening: Why and How Birds Do It

I guess that's maybe because of that** he accepted me getting closer and closer without spooking him... he was busy preening himself

**p.s. it's not the first time I am able to approach a bird better while preening...
