Still learning after many years.
Lens: Pentax 55-300 Camera: k5 IIs Photo Location: Saugus Ma. ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F8

I managed to get within a 100ft. or so for these pics.A question that I have is why does the blue sky take on a mottled appearance when cropping is very very tight. These pics are ok but over the years I have noticed the mottled look especially when I zoom in with the camera playback...--charliezap

Nice detail. Like the darker blue sky in the last two photos.

Excellent job of getting these captures! The only thing I noticed from your EXIF was your exposure bias was set to +1. I tend to go the opposite way and underexpose a bit so the sky and highlights don't get overexposed, particularly on a bright day.

Even at +1 the original pictures needed more light to bring out the osprey.--charliezap.

Yes, since the osprey is the subject, you have to choose the setting that will bring out the best of it.

I see an osprey sometimes but at longer distances . Your photos are quite good Charlie and you will likely make some even better .

Shots look good to me, Capn. I don't think I've ever seen an osprey in the flesh, but it's possible I did so when lived in MA.
