I wonder if these parrots can live with humans as pets?

Possibly, but they have a more specialised diet than Cockatoos. Sadly they are endangered, so hopefully nobody will take any from the wild. Somehow we need to protect them from Sugar Gliders in Tasmania.

What a beautiful, colorful bird - it's a shame they're endangered. Great photo, as always!

Thanks Jer! If the folks in Tassie can figure out how to stop Sugar gliders from eating them when nesting, they should be secure, but that is a really hard task.

I am jealous that you can enjoy these creatures on regular basis. Here we have to deal with sparrows and doves

Actually the Swift Parrots are rare where I live. This is only the second time I've seen any. Having said that, we get plenty of colourful parrots. Have a look at my "birds" album on Flickr!

In Pasadena ,California and many other cities , flocks of parrots descended from pets are quite common but your parrots are flashier .

I hope that doesn't happen here. I have seen an aviary escapee in the form of an African Ringneck parrot, but hopefully it was just one. We do have lots of colourful birds in Australia!

They are! Their distance travelled might not compare to the Snipe that visit Canberra from Japan, but over a thousand kilometres from Tasmania to Canberra is pretty impressive for a small parrot.

I hope not. They should be in the wild where they belong.
