practicing in Sydney Harbor for a Sail GP race back in early 2020. I was on a ferry as they sailed by.

These hydrofoil boats are something else, but like modern high-end race cars, they have little relationship to boats people like me sail (used to sail in my case). That was not always the case. I remember when the wing keel, which is great for cruising boats intended for coastal sailing in shallow water, emerged from America's Cup racing in the '80s. My beloved Cut Time had a wing keel which was perfect for the shoal waters of Galveston Bay, an innovation that didn't interfere with the boat's interior space nor my ability to go below and mix a G&T (with a lime) while beating to windward in a stiff breeze.

Great shot! If I got my 44 foot catamaran into a situation like this I`d have a heart attack, and my wife would divorce me!

You are right, they almost don't seem like they are sailing as much as just flying low to the water. I watched a little of the America's Cup this year and in some ways it doesn't have the same attraction to me as watching more classic sail boats cutting through the water.

They are pretty much flying with hardly any resistance from the water.

With all of the boat traffic in Sydney Harbor, these guys obviously know what they are doing.

I was looking for a flashing light and the sound of a siren!
