Yes, I was very close. It seems to be habituated to people and doesn't disappear on sight. I previously took video with my phone, but with that wide angle lens I couldn't get as close. Hopefully I'll see it when I have the 55-300 or the 150-450, or the camcorder!

Yes, having observed this one a number of times now, I'm fascinated by how "dog-like" it is.

Yes, sadly the British wanted to re-create England in Australia, so they decided that they would import rabbits and foxes for "sport". In the process they wiped out numerous native animal species and created probably the world's worst ever rabbit plague.

Originally posted by OrchidJulie Believe it or not, we actually have foxes in the Miami suburbs...I saw one a couple of years ago, about a block from the house. My recollection is that it was more gray than this beautiful fellow. Super catch, Rob!
Thank you! I've seen them a few times in suburbia. They seem to coexist with humans quite well.
Originally posted by 5ks Looks very friendly, yes? Your pet? Would be nice to get so close to a fox.
Not quite a pet, but it has certainly become accustomed to people. I suspect that people have been feeding it, because it came up to my car one time when I was eating lunch in the car park.
Originally posted by pichaser A chance encounter? Nice work , Rob .
Thanks! It seems to have become much more bold recently - assuming that it's the same fox I am seeing each time!

They usually are!
Originally posted by C_Jones Nice shot. I have seen foxes crossing the road and walking in other places not far from where my apartment is. There is quite a bit of forest near where I live.
Thanks! This one is in a nature reserve for birds which is only 3km (roughly 2 miles) from our federal parliament house. There's not a lot of forest in the area, but clearly enough cover that foxes are able to thrive.

Originally posted by carlb I love animals, and foxes are cute, but they've had a devastating impact on our local wildlife. Having said that, it's a good photo.
Yes, they have helped cause a lot of extinctions in Australia, along with cats and other feral animals - pigs, rabbits, goats, deer, buffalo and cane toads to name a few.
