Today the Australian War Memorial had an open day with flypasts etc - it made for some good photo ops:

A very evocative series indeed.
Tho', perhaps the one of the C130 would have benefited from a more direct viewpoint. (Remember Gary Lawson's "The Far Side" Santa shot?)

If I can order prints, I'd go with #3 please (flag with plane). This is an amazing series of pictures!

You're welcome to download it - it's probably good for a 6 x 4 print.

The guy with the pipe reminds me of the Aussies I had the privilege of knowing in Nam. His expression lets you know he will always have your 6.

Thanks,

Thanks, Ken. Our forces acquitted themselves well in that conflict, I'm glad you have good memories of them. That chap is about the right age for a Vietnam Veteran, so you never know...

Thanks! The aircraft shots were taken with the 50 - 200, incidentally. The pipe man with the FA50 1.4.

Great series, I particularly like #3 and 5. You caught a great expression of that man, the pipe and smoke is just perfect.

The Dakota, Grant - one of the most feared transports the world has known. All Indonesia trembles. No-one will dare invade while the Dakota remains part of the RAAF.

Thanks Photochop too. There was a nice south-easterly breeze to waft the smoke past his face.

Thommo, what a fantastic series. A really enjoyable viewing. I'm a bit of a military nut, so they appealed to me in other ways....as well as being great shots. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, Scott, I enjoyed taking them. If you are ever in Canberra the War Memorial is a must see - they have done a superb job with it.

Can't find the old Xmas card but it showed the front end of a 747 in flight with Santa, sleigh, reindeer and all, splattered over the nose of the aircraft. The aircrew being blissfully unaware of anything untoward.

Great series.

#3 and 4 are the money though. Perfect composition.
