I normally prefer landscape over portrait, but in this case, portrait works for me - it adds more of a feeling of height. The landscape can work, but as bobD commented - needs cropping.
It looks like your sensor needs cleaning (but you can remove the spots on these photgraphs with software processing)

Both are good but the portrait looks a bit better to me. As already said, the landscape would be better if cropped a little (more) from above and perhaps from left. Or, you might also try to make a square of it?

It was the lens, I was fussing with it earlier that day and it was quite dirty eek!
I cleaned the other spots but it looks like I missed a few..
