I like it. Brings back memories. I have a transparency somewhere with grass growing up though cracks in the surface. The section I looked at (for the sake of nostalgia) was not in use then.

How was the ride quality? Road looks a bit worse for wear.

The road surface was pretty rough. CALTRANS is no longer responsible for the maintenance of the roadway as Route 66 is now administered by the National Historical Trails Society and they don't seem to have the funds necessary to repair or repave the road. Incidentally, this stretch goes from Ludlow to Amboy but a bridge collapsed east of Amboy and you have to detour towards Interstate-40 and/or continue towards the Mojave National Preserve and Interstate-15, you can no longer drive down to Exits 115-114 of Interstate-40.

I like the perspective. Route 66. A road with a story. My brother and his wife traveled on parts of it in California just last week.

This photo gives a good feeling what taking U.S. 66 was like 'back in the day', when that was the best way of getting across the Southwest.
