MMA event at iso 1600
Posted By: skinja, 11-26-2008, 03:04 PM

I had the opritunity to shoot a mixed martial art event and it was quite interesting, I took multiple lenses with me. I tried the Tamron 28-75 at 2.8 iso 1600, not so good. The lighting was horrible.

The Sig 70-200 2.8 didn't even make it out of the bag.

I also had my trusty pentax 50 1.4 (I ended up getting to shoot ring side so it was a little long.) I also had my favorite lense, pentax 31 1.8.

I was actually pretty pleased with the K10D at 1600, the only PP was done in lightroom 1.2.

CC always welcome.

Thanks for looking,

Thanks, it looks much better in black and white then the color version.

I was just pleased to get what I did, I pretty much had to shoot wide open at 1600 iso with pretty low shutter speeds. A little more light would have been great, it would have offered a little more flexability.

Thanks for looking,

John

Okay... Those are some guys I would not want to upset.
Excellent pics... I think the first one is great because of the raw emotion. And I'm pretty sure the guy on the right is about to kiss the canvas...

Thats the cool thing about MMA it can change in the blink of an eye.

There were many good fights that night. Ryan Couture had his first pro fight. There are some shots of that fight in the link below

I haven't been that pleased with the iso 1600 shots that I had taken in the past, all considered these turned out well.

Hope you have a happy thanksgiving if today is that day for you, other wise just have a great day.

Agree with above. That B&W is wow!!! I bet that organization would use that on promotional material. Nice work with ISO 1600.

I really dig the first shot. That guy dealing the blow looks pretty tough in that shot.

This series reminds me of why should I keep the fast 50 in my bag. Great shots.
