Moonrise Over Cathedral Rock
Lens: Sigma 17-70 contemporary Camera: K-3II Photo Location: Sedona, AZ ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/13s Aperture: F16
Posted By: ToddK, 06-25-2021, 06:17 AM

This was taken several years ago and is a crop of the original image to get the moon to appear larger. I should have thought of zooming in for a tighter shot originally, and I have no clue why I shot it at F16 when F8 would have worked fine. But there are always lessons to be learned in this hobby.

Beautiful image.
If the emphasis is supposed to be on the moon I would move the frame a little higher though, showing more sky and less trees. Now it is a lovely landscape image with the moon beeing a nice addition.

Very nice, Todd. I'd love to see this place in person!

Thanks Patrick! I appreciate you pointing that out, and I decided to act on your advice and post another version. However, I decided to take it another direction as well and convert it to b&w. Let me know what you think!

I like the new framing better (I'd prefer a tad more space on the left side though) and the b&w conversion is also well-made.
The processing makes some dust on the sensor (or the rear element of the lens) visible though (right side in the sky)
