Crux and the Milky Way

Crux and the Milky Way

Seven images of 30 seconds each, stacked with Sequator. Looking SSW with the Southern Cross and part of the Large Magellanic Cloud visible as well as a large arc of the Milky Way.

Beautiful ! Would be good to know at focal length you clicked this picture at (I see that you used a 16-85). Another additional information that would help (me) is what was the #bortle from where you clicked this picture. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! It's at 16mm, as wide as the lens goes. The location is a 400km round trip from where I live and is the most easily accessible bortle 1 place I could find. According to lightpollutionmap.info:
Brightness 0.172 mcd/m2
Artificial brightness 1.11 microcd/m2
Ratio 0.0065
Bortle Class 1

There's bortle 1 much closer to where I live, but the access roads are poor. I went to a nearby bortle 2 site and found that the northern side was too bright from the city about 46km away.

Nice shot. That darn LMC keeps getting in the way.

Thanks for the detailed info. much appreciated. 400km drive needs some dedication and the results show it. Now I know how the MW looks at 16mm ! TFS once again.

Thank you! I'm very lucky to have very dark skies not too far away as well as a view into the centre of the galaxy.
