Jellyfish & Other Exhibits at the Vancouver Aquarium · 05:17 PM

Thursdays are the new Fridays for me until the end of the year so I managed to get out to the Vancouver Aquarium for a quick visit.

Packed full of kids so hard to get good shots but here's what I was able to salvage from today's outing that I actually liked.

Could probably use some cleaning up of the specks in the water but I'm not going to worry about it. Added some vignetting to the portrait shot to emphasize the colors of the jellyfish.

Thanks for the feedback.

Funny thing was, I packed a handful of lenses to experiment with but because of my daughter running underfoot and other non-photo gear I had to cart around, I ended up shooting all day with my dependable A 50mm F1.7. Focusing in the dark was a bit of a pain though...

These are absolutely beautiful images. I want to find an aquarium now. I love the jellies, both shots.

Yes, I really love the second shot. The beautiful color contrast between the water and jellyfish is simply amazing! Great work!

Thanks, those are Vancouver's famous beluga whales (we have 3).

Shot downstairs where the underwater windows are, patiently tracking the whales as they swim by with a manual focus 50mm; lot of work but not convinced AF could do much better with the low contrast conditions.

I did a photoshoot of Van Aqua sometime during the fall. It's a really neat little aquarium. Too bad that last sea otter passed away
