Daughter's Handiwork - A New Pentaxian?
Posted By: Sailor, 11-29-2008, 10:38 AM

Last year, I gave my younger daughter, a grad student at Ohio State, a small P&S for Christmas. That little camera initiated her interest in photography, so while she is home this Thanksgiving weekend, I slapped on my DA 16-45 to my DS2, set the camera to 3* JPEG and to "P" and let her play around. Here are a couple of shots she took, managing to capture some of the only slight fall color that appears around here.

Maybe she's got the bug . . . . we'll see. As a way to find out without spending too much, I'm thinking of taking up Amazon's black Friday offer: K20D + Kit Lens, Optio A40 and Bag for just the price of the camera/lens. I'm already "committed" to giving my older daughter a P&S for Christmas anyway so the Optio could fit that bill; I can give my younger one my DS2, the new kit lens and bag - allowing her to start playing around; and my wife can give me the K20D - which has finally become sufficiently cheap to spark an interest in the camera that I couldn't muster before.

Could work out beautifully.

Seriously, these images are better composed by a lot of photogs I have seen. She certainly has a natural talent for this.

Thanks, Cupic. I think she's going to enjoy this hobby.

Very kind words, James. I'll pass them along to Robin.

Oooooooo . . . . . now you've made me feel guilty. Guilty enough to give her my rarely used M50/1.4, as well. I'm sure she'll thank you!

Nice Jer - I have a similar sitation here as well. Might give my Daugher the K10D and a couple lenses as I justify a K20D - That fist shot to me indicates she has the eye and passion.

I think she does have the temperment. Her photos with the P&S from trips to California (to see her boy friend) or to other places contain the usual snapshots, but she also seems to have an I for detail, so many of her images are very well thought through.

Thanks, Dave.
