Tiny little plants.
Posted By: blues_hawk, 07-17-2021, 08:01 AM

Buffalo Mountain nature preserve has ropes to keep people from walking on the tiny and sometimes rare plants that live on top of this high pinnacle. It was a nice hike of mostly rock steps going up nearly half a mile to a wind blown and unprotected rock peak, and a deep woods trail of granite and scrabble on the return loop.

Glad that they are protected. Do you know what they are?

Sounds like an interesting walk. More pics and info on the plants would be nice.

I'm not sure what this one is. I'll see what else I can dig up when I get time. It's a nice hike.

I took a look at the Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve website but wasn't able to track down names from there. Here's another interesting plant from that trip.

And here's another plant from the top. They're growing in whatever puddles up on the rock face and not much else.

Might be fun to see if anybody can ID them. The scale is pretty small on the little shrubby ones, about the size of both hands with lichens all around. This one reminds me of mountain laurel but it's much smaller than the tumbleweed sized one's I see all the time.
