hey Rob.

Was this yesterday? (17-July)

Over where i am, this was how it looked yesterday around the 610pm to 630pm time (singapore is GMT +8)

took a snap while waiting for the Apaches and Chinooks and Eagles to appear.

Cool! It's interesting to see the change in the apparent angle of the light due to the location of the observer. Thanks for posting. Was there an air show?

They were doing rehearsal.

Yes, the half-moon makes it look much more three dimensional with the curved shadow line. It helps to bring out the surface features, too. Full moon is actually a bit boring as a photo in terms of surface detail.

This is an outstanding moon shot Rob! So often they are taken in the black of night, and they don't look nearly as good as having some light and color in the sky.

Thanks Todd! Strangely enough, the low contrast seems to result in more detail on the surface. I suppose that makes sense: the detail isn't blown out in highlights or lost in shadows.
