Hawaiian Steam Locomotive in Connecticut
Posted By: reh321, 07-25-2021, 09:34 AM

The discussion of steam locomotives still running
Kinsua Bridge -1994 - PentaxForums.com
reminded me of this scene my wife and I saw in 2009.
The locomotive served its "useful" life in Hawaii, but somehow ended up at an "Antique Machinery" museum in western Connecticut.
They don't have anything appropriate to pull, so they carry passengers along with the coal oil they burn.
I'm not sure how they stay in business.

Very cool. I grew up in Durango Co. and have always loved old steam engines. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for your comment.

The people in Colorado run locomotives in a much more organized way, although I have been reading about the history of this locomotive, and learned that this is run only at their Spring and Fall "festivals", so I guess they don't have an incentive to 'do it right'.

Thank you for your comment.

As I said above, I discovered this afternoon {actually, I must have rediscovered this fact, since I must have known this a dozen years ago when we went to see it}, that it is used only at their Spring and Fall "celebrations" - and then to run only on a loop that runs around the museum grounds - sounds like good 'work' and a "good home" to me.
