Turkey Day portraits
Posted By: hamidlmt, 11-30-2008, 12:53 AM

I'm finally starting to get the hang of bouncing on-camera flash, now generally using longer shutter speeds and lower iso (below iso 400). This is really changing the way I look at indoor event photography.

Used the K20D, 31 Limited and AF-540, mounted on-camera.

1/8 sec, F/2.5, iso 320

1/60 sec, F/4, iso 400

1/25 sec, F/4, iso 200

1/13 sec, F/4, iso 320

One natural-light snap - 1/50 sec, F/2.8, iso 100

Hamid, very nice series.

The first shot is my favorite - such a genuine expression and happy from within. The B+W conversion does it justice too

I was thinking the same thing the B&W really works for this series.

Thank you James! The first one is probably my fav from the day as well. My little friend is growing up quickly!

Thanks! I'm falling in love with black and white again. Now that I'm shooting in RAW and processing in Aperture, I'm beginning to zero in on the look I'm after.

Thanks! That second one is very special to me, because my friend Veronica is terribly camera shy and she willingly posed with Matt! I'm going to have to do a print for them.

I like the first one best as well. Great expression, perfect lighting, and good DOF control. Very nice impromptu portrait...

Good shots. I agree with those above that the B&W really works for this series.

I prefer the last one best. It's very natural and fun. The motion blur adds to the idea that the people are excited. Good stuff.

Thanks! That last one was actually the first shot of the day, taken while walking up to the house.

Very very nice Hamid. I too like the first the best, but they're all great, and methinks I see a black butte porter in the last (or something else from deschutes brewery...mmmmmmm).

Ahh, my favorite beer... I got to land a helicopter on top of the Black Butte this summer while working on a fire up there. We were carrying radio components to the top, and I figured that carrying something made me a porter and went on a terrible punning run for a bit... I'm better now .
