Fall Colors... with a little twist
Posted By: Marc Langille, 11-30-2008, 12:33 PM

No shooting fall colors this year, and it was truly stunning further south in the state... However, here are some images I dug up and just recently uploaded to my newer website. I had forgotten about them when I made the transition a year ago - wow, a year already with the SmugMug Pro account! They are some of my first attempts at landscape work - waaaay back in 2006. These are all taken with the K100D + FA*80-200/2.8.... no K10D yet.

That year was amazing for fall color duration - it lasted over 2 weeks...

Abandoned Sentinels:

K100D, 1/350 sec., F/4.5, ISO 200, 143mm
Photo Dimensions 3008 x 2008

Devils Den State Park - Lee Creek:

K100D, 1/250, F/4.0, ISO 200, 80mm
Photo Dimensions 3008 x 2008

I hope you like these images!

Regards,
Marc

Beautiful shots Marc! In first I like the ripples in water which broke nicely the mirror image in water. Both have lovely colors.

Outstanding colors Marc. I love the reds in #1 we don't get that here so much. Water is so calm. Nice shots.

Marc,

Beautiful colors.

That is one thing I miss about living further north. It is still pretty much green hear now.

Thanks Kurt - it's a little different from the norm with those structures. Glad you enjoyed them!

The colour is soooo beautiful. The foliage like this presents a good viewing accompanied with great green tea. Reading newspaper in this environment is surely a pleasure.

Beautiful shots in deed. k100d? You still have this camera? This is amazing. I sold my DS some time ago. I like that camera for protraits in fact.

Both are stunning shots Marc. The reflections are great with a really nice contrasting texture. Love the (bridge?) ruins in the first shot.

Thank you Dave! The crazy part is that we had the wettest season in the past century here - apparently it was just shy of 36" of rain at the end of September!!! Unfortunately we didn't have the heat of summer for very long, so the leaves didn't peak as well this year in NW Arkansas...

It's located in a valley with 350 foot elevations on either side, so wind isn't much of an issue in Devils Den.

Once again Marc, great shots! Those relatively large apertures produce plenty of DOF here. The reflections off the water work to create pics with tremendously even metering. I love it--thanks.

BTW, can you reveal how you post shots of this size? I would like to post some at this size.

Thank you James. I still have the K100D... I kept it as a back up camera, even though I had two K10D's for a while (shooting a couple of receptions) and one time I gave it to my assistant to shoot with.

I guess it's because I took some of my first really serious images with the DS and have a lingering attachment to that Sony 6MP sensor...

Thank you Peter! I hope all is well with you? You are correct - they are the original, old bridge pilings over Lee Creek.

Thank you Matt.

That image has always been one of my first and favorite landscape images. I have a print of that first image at 16x20. The few times I've brought it out to show anyone, there was utter silence for several seconds. I guess that means I've done my job in evoking an emotion! Seeing it in print seems to be a completely different experience.

Regards,
Marc
