I need some help!
Posted By: Ole, 11-30-2008, 03:38 PM

I'm compiling photos from our Greenland trip for a printed album and I'm torn.
The below two photos are cropped from the original. Which one to chose? The one closer up, or the one which better shows the size of the icebergs?

Thanks in advance for your help and critique!

Both!

Well in one! I think that the issue of size is met in the first one. the wild blue streak in the second one? I think that needs to be in whatever crop you go with!

IMO, #2 is the better shot: it portrays the relatively small size of the boat against the vastness of the landscape, but you still get details. Better balance too.

I agree with the others on#2. Gives a better feel for the size and great composition.

If it is printed big, I would opt for the 2nd shot. Better perspective.

Let's make it an overwhelming majority #2. I like how the top of the iceberg is almost even with the mountains in the background.

Let me cast the final

and most important vote...

Oh it is definately #2... especially if you print at a good large size to keep the detail on the boat and the beautiful size of those icebergs...

Ole,
No2 for me. Much more open and visually appealing to my eye. I could tell a story looking at that pic, well done.

Awwww did I miss the voting? Cuz I'd vote #2 as well. Beautiful shot, with an awesome perspective.

Nice shots Ole, I go with #2 as well, the boat is really only there incidentally and works that way to give perspective. The larger shot of the boat doesn't really tell us anything more about the boat and you lose the sense of perspective. Looks more like you were trying to take a picture of the boat and you ran out of lens.
