Birds of Summer
Posted By: woof, 11-30-2008, 06:06 PM

Today I was mastering video tapes from this past summer and I "found" these again... I thought they were interesting though the subject matter's obviously been done to death. I recall taking these... I was trying to see how sharp I could get a shot of a moving target this size with a DA 55-300mm. The gull was coming up wind towards me. I resisted the temptation to spray the fellow with shots and took my time and squeezed off about five shots. These two were decent...

FWIW.

Pentax DA 55-300mm on a K10D at 300mm ISO 200, 1/750th. Taken in Late July, at Porter's Point, Lake Champlain, Colchester Vermont.

Hi Seaain

I really think you did a great job on these.... I have never really done a decent BIF, but have tried so I know how hard it would be to get two this sharp

Both are good, but I really think the second one is unique.

Well captured Seaain, you made it look like they were hovering there waiting for you.

I know how difficult this is to do, and perhaps some day I'll get good enough to post BIF here. But, until then, I'll enjoy the work of people like you--thanks.

Fantastic shots! I agree with the comment about the 2nd pic. It does look poetic. Well done...

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments.

I liked that last one too... as for poetic... I actually used it as "defining beauty" at another site, so I think we are pretty much on the same page there...

The first one made the cut on the definition of the feathers on the left side and the light shining through on the right. The piece of seaweed... (for it's nest ?) was an added bit of detail I liked too.

Thanks again.
