There is a monument at the intersection of Leninski' Prospekt and the 3rd highway ring in the city of Moscow, i used to be able to see this out my window from very far away when i was little.
its a very large monument (4th pic shows its size comparison), and intrestingly enough, this is the first time in my life i actualy stood next to it.
the round ball is meant to represent Sputnik, the first man made satellite, funny enough sputnik simply means "satellite" in russian, its inventors were not very creative LOL
the inscription reads:
"12 April 1961, the soviet space ship "Vostok" with a human on board completes its trip around the planet.
the first human, to reach space, is a citizen of the united soviet socialist republics, Yuri Alekseivich Gagarin"
