Curves In An Old Oak
Lens: SMC Pentax-FA f:1.8 77mm Camera: K-1 ii Photo Location: Sacramento Valley ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/90s Aperture: F5.6

On an old abandoned farmstead on the Sacramento River, all that remains of the house site are some old oak trees and amaryllis flowers.
Looking up, one of the oaks displayed this pattern of power in gentle curves and hard blocks of bark.
I had to wonder who it might have been, and how long ago, a young boy sat in this tree's crotch and contemplated what was going on below him.
Angky.

Beautifully detailed photo with nice natural colors and highlights provided by the sun. The rigid bark adds to it's apparent strength. Nice capture and concept. It alone survives. Thanks for sharing.

Terrific light and texture. Old trees make really good subject matter.

Thanks for the note on light and texture.
That lighting is the thing that really caught my eye.
And, yes, tree trunks continue to make images for me.

I think that tree grew in rule-of-thirds just for me!
It just worked out perfectly. (Well, I did move my camera around a lot.)
Thanks for noting it.

I like this photo very much. It isolates some very cool shapes that would lost in a photo of the entire tree. It also reminds of the live oak in our back yard.

These shapes sorta just pop out of the landscape. It's happening to me more and more.
Change wide angle to telephoto to capture a "shape" with "light gradients" on it.
Maybe it comes with old age--losing my sight???
Thanks for the appreciation--and I'm glad you have a live one to enjoy!
