Thanks. None applied on those. It seems that when the photo is rich in colors that I am less likely to need it. Like you, I usually don't intend to shoot Iso that high.

So that is what a real cardinal actually looks like! I've never seen one! (Except in sports ads and I think they wear wool instead of feathers.)
I like these shots, and with the seed pod right beside his head, it really seems "real-life" right on the screen.
Angky.

Thanks for viewing and you comments. Cardinals are fairly common here, but come and go. They will be here all winter. Did not know that they are not in your area. The seed pod is a actually a hickory nut.

Very nice series, Mike. The rich red of the cardinals is very impressive.

Thanks. They certainly can look different colors dependent on the light.

I see on their range map they are generally east of the Rockies, although there is a swath through Arizona.

They like sunflower seeds in the bird feeder.

Well-focused shots with a 500mm lens. Tripod or handheld?

Thanks for your comments and information. Shots were all handheld.

Nice series Mike. That vibrant red is amazing. Enjoyed having them around when I lived in Blue Eye, MO. No such luck here in Oregon.

Thanks. I had no idea that their range did not extend to the west.
