Reminded of an Old Friend

Last month while riding my bike, I came upon a rather scruffy gen-1, 987 series Porsche Boxster in silver with optional 18" wheels - nearly identical to my first Porsche, a lightly used '08 I bought in 2009 and kept until 2013, when I traded up to a new Boxster S. In fact, I initially had the unlikely notion that the car might actually be the one I owned, but the car I photographed (first shot below) has the headlight washing option that my car lacked. For fun, I went back to look at some of the pics I took of my 987, which date back to my K20D; the second pic - taken in 2010 - is one of my car parked back-to-back with a late-60s Porsche 912 on a summer day at the local rec center. I'm virtually certain, that I post the second shot back then, but I don't specifically remember doing so.

Two classics together and the colours contrast nicely.

Pretty cars.
You hafta be glad you had one!
I see that 912 in your shot, and start remembering old 1968 goals that were never realized!
Enjoy your Porsche!

Thanks, EM. It dawned on me when I posted this pic, that Boxster was the last car I bought without the electronic wizardry that's commonplace today. No Nav, sat radio, Bluetooth, adaptive suspension, traction control . . . . . . . . just simple and fun to drive.

When I was a grad student in '70 or '71, I drove a 912 and it planted a seed that never went away. The Boxster in shot, my first Porsche, hooked me, and I'm now driving my 2021 911, my fourth Porsche. As I've said before, that 912 test drive ultimately cost me a lot of money!

Good shots Jer, particularly the older one with your Boxster and the 912. You can really see where suspension and tire technology have evolved when looking at the old 912 with its small wheel size and the size of the tire sidewalls on it.

Thanks much, Todd. Yeah, cars certainly have evolved since the late '60s.

Yeah, and my iPhone is a Xs - far from the latest and the greatest.
