European Starlings have been taking over the small cluster of saguaro cacti at the Riparian Preserve. The native population of Gila Woodpeckers is not to be seen in the last few weeks. Some are still around in other vegetation but not in the holes in the saguaro cacti.

I like the photo but don't like the changeover. Very nice capture. I hope this is not a permanent trend.

What can be done about the starlings!
Sad to say, they will indeed replace the original species.
