CV 67 AKA Big John

The John F Kennedy was sold for $1.00 as scrap on October 6 2021, soon to be moved from Philly Naval Yard for dismantling.

RIP to a legend My last visit produced these shots.

I would of updated the originals, but they've disappeared from original posts

That first image is a dramatic shot, regardless of the history and all it stands for!

The photos do dramatically show the size of the aircraft carrier and its condition. The cost for maintaining such icons is enormous and apparently, the government does not have the means to dismantle and scrap the carrier. It is sad to see it go this way, but this happens to all unneeded and outdated equipment.

When I was in the Marines, we did carrier qualifications on it. Love the shots, but kind of sad.

I used to see 67 as I flew out of PHL airport and marvelled at the sheer size of it. Was expecting it was scrap years ago.
Love that first shot.
