I do remember seeing my first '63 Corvette. It was a new split window coupe, fuel injected 327, a light brown colour. I was a grade eight student, walking to school with some buddies and this car went by, just at the speed limit, in a very unobtrusive manner. The driver, lived in the neighbourhood, and owned a Chev-Olds dealership in my burg. He always had some exceptional ride, at least for a couple of weeks, to later be sold as a 'demonstrator.'
But I do remember my reaction, I turned in about a 180 degree move....always keeping my eye on this wonderful looking sports car.
I have driven a '64 Corvette, convertible a few times. My boss at the time ('68-69) was from the UK and always had exceptional cars...and I as his loyal underling, had a car worthy of swapping with him, on occasion. I had my '67 Camaro RS coupe, 327, 4 speed.
He had, in succession.....a '67 MGB, a ' 60's Jaguar Mk. ll Saloon with the 3.8, DOHC, inline six and a '64 Corvette.
They were all exceptional sporting cars to drive, but although I like the Vette, my favourite was his Jaguar sedan, with it's Connolly Leather , well stuffed seats, burled walnut dash, etc...white on black Smiths' instruments, excellent handling, etc .
I've never been in a car that got so many looks from people of every age...and as a Jag driver - even temporarily like me- would say.... 'station in life.'
Supremely comfortable, absolutely stunning to look at.
Well, it was all very heady for a 19 year old.
