Brilliant red!
What kind of background did you use? It really sets up the bloom nicely.

Angky.

You may recall what I had reported about the effects of using a long telephoto lens to bring a subject in close. This effect is referred to as "Banding."

Here is a much better, more detailed explanation.

"Banding typically occurs when a color is graduated across a number of shades—like light blue to dark blue in a sky. ... Banding happens when there aren't enough tones available to recreate a seamless gradation; that's why they're most common in 8-bit image files and with image files that have been heavily compressed."

For this image I decided to leave the Banding in as I felt it really contributed a very pleasing background frame. Glad you like it and many thanks for your comment.

Thanks for this interesting note on banding with a telephoto.
I had not put the whole thing together in my mind--banding with telephoto. Learned something new!

Very rich red color. The banding makes it look like rose is emitting a glow above it. Good choice not to remove it. Nice capture.

Great shot, Tony. The red is . . . . . . well . . . . . . . . . . RED. Also, thanks for acquainting me with the concept of banding - I don't recall coming across the phenomenon before.
