Mounting a 40 year old Minolta MD 300 mm f/5.6 on a Pentax K3 with a Fotodiox ring.
Lens: Minolta MD 300 mm f/5.6 Camera: Pentax K3 Photo Location: Quebec, CANADA ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/13s Aperture: F11

Over time I amassed an almost complete collection of 26 MINOLTA MD lenses, ranging from 16 mm fisheye to 500 mm catadioptric. I purchased a FOTODIOX mount adapter, permitting the use of Minolta glass on digital K-mount Pentaxes. This is my first try, using a 40-year old MD 300 mm f/5.6 telephoto. I mounted the K3 on my Manfrotto tripod, the lens itself is quite light and doesn't have a tripod foot. I focused carefully on the City Park in front of my house where there is this sliding apparatus for children. I used stopped-down metering at f/11 and let the camera determine the correct shutter speed using the Av mode. The result is not too bad. The 300 mm lens gives a FOV similar to a 450 mm telephoto in FF.

Most MINOLTA MD lenses were issued around 1981, making then 40-year old this year. They are like children to me. They are extremely well-made, with all-metal barrels, multi-coated lens elements and mechanics to last a lifetime.

Minolta lenses have always had an outstanding reputation, and especially for color.
What you've got here bears that out.

This is probably one of my "worst" Minolta lenses. The MD 100-300 mm f/5.6 zoom gave way better pictures on film at f/11, sharp from corner-to-corner. I also have the MD and the MC 300 mm f/4.5 versions and they are all performing similarly to the f/5.6 version. The zoom was the best "300 mm" version, paradoxically. Next, I'll try to find my MD 100 mm f/4 MACRO for a try-out when I have the time.

Regards
