Glad you were able to get these shots, Mike!
However, they puzzle me (a good thing!). This is an eclipse of the sun?
I'm trying to visualize how the moon eclipses the sun at 3 AM...
Well, even if I am puzzled, they are still good shots, and interesting!
Angky.

Okay. Maybe I'm getting it!
The earth covers over the moon! And you made a shot of the moon.
Glad you posted these--got my brain to working!
Thanks!
Angky.

Hi Angky. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Yes the earth blocks the suns light in a Lunar Eclipse. At your location, these photos were taken around 1:00 a.m. Pacific time. The next Solar eclipse will be in 2024, and here, it will be a total eclipse

Nice capture. Your photo is much brighter than either of mine. I performed very little brightening in post to keep them close to what I saw through the viewfinder. I took them right at the peak of the eclipse. Did the views lighten somewhat after the peak? What gear did you use in capturing you photos? Thanks for posting.

Really nice shots. I prefer the first one in color.

Thank you. The first image has more of the "Blood Moon" look. The second image was taken a tad later when more light creeped around the edge.

Ahhh! On my phone I thought the second was b&w. I misunderstood. Nice images.

Yes, and a big difference with a lunar eclipse is it might last hours instead of 1-2 minutes. This one was the longest in years, although out of sight to me since it was wet and cloudy here.

Another point of view, taken in the Northern Piedmont of Virginia, shortly after maximum eclipse (about 99% where I was).
Nice shot. Unfortunately if was very cloudy here in N. Calif.

Thanks for viewing and your comments. Unfortunately, several commentators were unable to view due to cloudy skies. The peak here was at 3:02 a.m. CST.

That is new info to me, that it lasts so long!
Actually, I've never seen a lunar eclipse--never really had occasion to think about one.
I wish you had been able to add your images to Mike's--too bad it was overcast in your location.
Maybe I should look for such an opportunity (if it is still within my lifetime).
Thanks to you guys for updating me with such interesting material.
Angky.
