Tufted Titmouse
Lens: HD 150-450 Camera: K-70 Photo Location: Outside
Posted By: dirwood, 12-09-2021, 01:11 PM

Always seems to be an overcast day whenever I can make it out to take pictures. The plus side was the snow seemed to brighten it up a bit. The shutter speed and iso all varied from picture to picture. They are all cropped but not 100% cropped. Picture 4387 (the 1st one) would've been perfect for me if there wasn't a small branch putting a blurry line through the bird! Red tailed hawk for the one photo and all pictures just start from the camera, no processing afterwards.

Even disregarding the branch, I like pics 2-4 best.

Great watchful eye on that hawk...Thank you for sharing these!

Thanks, that hawk was some distance away. The wife spotted it in the tree and was like what is that. Took some moving to a different spot around the tree to get a good view of the hawk. I'll post the uncropped picture later. It was pretty big cause at first we thought eagle.

We heard a pileated woodpecker but we just couldn't find the bugger. Been trying to get one for awhile now.

Love woodpeckers! My only decent photos of them though are from a cell phone; they fly around so much that right-place right-time camera-you-have seems more important than a more appropriate lens that’s not ready to go all the time I’m outside!

All nice pictures of the birds. I like the red tailed hawk picture the best simply because I don't see them that often. The tufted tit mouse is a frequent visitor to my feeders. I also see plenty of red bellied and downy woodpeckers. I'll post some soon.

I keep my KP in an accessible location with a Sigma 170-500 on it most of the time and when I go outside, I sometimes take it with me to be in reach.

Only way to beat the cell phone for surprise opportunities!

I also found myself immediately attracted to #2.
Something about the bird's expression of attention, as well as the intriguing framing.

Thanks, number 2 is my favorite as well. I had moved to a different spot to get that shot and thats when it looked at me, like "Hey, what are you doing mister". My K-70 lives with the 150-450 on it close to the window with our feeders just outside.

Here are the uncropped versions of #2 and the red-tail. Both were at 450mm handheld with fast shutter speed.

I think I like the un-cropped of the titmouse pretty well.
Somehow that much neutral background with the sharp bird in it has a good appeal.
Maybe cropping it about half of what you did. But either is a good image.
Angky.
