Found this out in the boonies today... This tree made a Valiant effort.

Nice find Josh, there's no chance of that tree getting an iron deficiency.

Very interesting find!.
It's amazing the tree hasn't died of lead poisoning from all the bullets. Perhaps they were there prior to the growth of the tree!
Valiant in effort and in namesake!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Gary, it looks to be doing well. I think the car saved the tree, as the whole field is overgrazed and denuded, but the cattle couldn't get to this tree.

Yeah, the car has seen some wild times... Out there people used to shoot at anything and everything (probably still do). Note the weird trim visible in #2 and 3... those are Sierra Nevada Beer bottle caps glued to the car... probably related to the bullet holes. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Hamid. Christmas trees (at least the killed kind that most people still seem to buy) each fight back by releasing a little carbon back into the air... This one took out a car and kept living - gotta love it. I guess after christmas I'll move my live tree back outside so it doesn't do the same thing to my house.

You gotta love this series, it tells many stories. Mind you, the last Valiant that I saw was in a tad better shape. Thanks for posting this.

This is a cool series. Love the bottle caps in that shot. I bet the car also holds the moisture in around the base. Great title Btw!

Great find Josh. Bullet holes? I hope the car was just target practice for someone.

Thank you. The bottle caps add to the story for sure. You're right about the moisture, as it's a very very dry place in the summer and that would help a tree establish itself.

Thanks LaRee. I find myself scrolling up and down too, but mostly wishing I'd taken more interesting photos of it.

Thanks Mel. The bullet holes are most certainly target practice. This is way out on private ranch land (I was trespassing off of adjacent public land) , and pretty much everything has bullet holes in it.
