Aperture block and taking photos
Lens: PENTAX SMC DAL 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Camera: Pentax K-50 Photo Location: La Coruña ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/4000s Aperture: F4.5

Aperture block solenoid doesn't work. Have blocked the aperture with a piece of plastic strap next to the lever and it works already two years. :-)

Pretty good... so how does that work? You shoot with a fixed aperture??

Such a great shot - regardless of the technical challenges. The workaround seems to work well!

Hello Michael. Yes. For the 'standard' zoom lens I cut off 1 cm of a plastic strap, the ones for tying cables together, wide enough to open almost completely de aperture, more or less F4.5 to have some DOF. If you do mostly landscapes you take a piece of a narrower strap to have let's say F8 or F11 more or less. To measure the exposure use M and Green button. Or programa M and take a try to adjust. I use some old lenses with aperture rings most of the time anyway. Hope it cleared your question. Saludo.

It's also fun to look for solutions and make It funcion again. Send it to a repair shop was going to cost at least some 175€. So I am looking, without hurry, for a second hand K-5II or K-3 which are not easy to find in Spain.
Meanwhile enjoying the K-50 as it is. Some 27000 photos so far. :-)
