Eagle Furnace

Located in the Bald Eagle Valley of Central Pennsylvania and founded in 1831 by Joseph Curtin, an Irish immigrant, Eagle Furnace utilized charcol to smelt iron ore into high grade iron ingots. He employed around 200 workers; providing a "worker's village" for them which included cabins, dormitories, a church and a store. The furnace required that an acre of trees a day be converted into charcol to provide enough fuel for 1 day's firing. It required 4 days to reach the proper temperature(2500 degrees F) for smelting. The average ingot weighed 2500 lbs. Film used was Lomography400.

Good pics. Interesting story and place. Even no longer working it would take some effort to maintain the site.

Nice set. I like lomo films. They're good enough and affordable. The story is well accompanied.
