Very beautiful! The color of the sky and the rocks really work well.

Thx one & all. This was my first & hopefully not the last visit to the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, CA. Its my kind of place: everything from macro to intimate scenes to grand land/sky-scapes. Can't beat the earth-toned granite colors either.

Here are two more:

Great shot. Like the sky colors and how they contrast with the colors of the Alabama Hills. How did they get named the "Alabama Hills"? Thanks for posting.

You didn't get a glimpse of the Lone Ranger or Tonto while you were there?

Great place for interesting images like you got. You don't expect to see it until suddenly you're there!
That sunset shot is great!
Angky.

Thx. The Alabama Hills were named for the CSS Alabama, a Confederate warship deployed during the American Civil War. When news of the ship's exploits reached prospectors in California sympathetic to the Confederates, they named many mining claims after the ship, and the name came to be applied to the entire range.

Thanks for explaining the origin of this name. It just seemed odd in California.

Very nice shots. The sunrise time is often a lot more interesting than sunset - your first photo proves it nicely. And great designs of the nature in the latter pictures!
