Urquhart Castle
Posted By: Kerrowdown, 12-23-2021, 02:35 PM

The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though built on the site of an early medieval fortification. Founded in the 13th century, Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century.

A rare image which features my Retro Lady SMC Pentax-M 40mm F2.8 in action.

Great image of that castle in its surroundings!
Interesting to think about, especially for me.
It was the independence wars a few centuries later that sent my ancestors from the highlands as slaves to the tobacco plantations in the American Carolinas--if my tiny bit of knowledge of it is accurate.
Images such as yours above are fascinating with the stories that we can now only imagine.
Angky.

Great setting for a castle. It's amazing that these structures still stand and remind us of the history behind them. Nicely composed image of the castle in its surrounds.

PS Also beautiful lens.

My local history (I can just see the top of the tower from where I live) has always fascinated me. We're lucky that so much of it, is very well documented.

Aye but there for strategic reasons... for the control of the surrounding areas.

Built to last... in the Scottish way.

This is a very nice shot from a good position to give it that beautiful water backdrop. Well done KD!
