More HD DA 16-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 ED water pictures with the K3 before it freezes solid.
Lens: HD DA 16-85 mm ED Camera: Pentax K3 Photo Location: Quebec, CANADA ISO: 100 Aperture: F8
Posted By: RICHARD L., 12-23-2021, 03:10 PM

Today I drove to see the Batiscan before it freezes solid. I tried my new HD DA 16-85 ED lens on the K3 handheld. My shooting site is "exactly" 50.0 miles from my house. First picture is of the River getting snowy, second one shows my Mazda on the bridge from where I shoot (the aura of mystery has just disappeared, I know) and the third picture shows a little trout brook I know just a few miles from the river. Results look promising @ f/8.

These photos show great contrast between the deep blue waters and snowy banks. The river has swift waters. When I look at your photos, I wonder if the flow is like this year long or this is an area of narrowing that produces the rapid flows. Regardless, you get great photos on this river. And yes the 16-85 produces good results.

I was worried it was your K3 that was freezing solid...
Never happened to my K5 yet, but I'm still on my original battery after 10 years, and it does let me know it doesn't like the cold.

This was a day at -15 degree C (almost 0 deg F).

Discharge varies according to seasonal changes. Spring and Fall bring the highest water levels. The rock weir associated with a narrowing of the river under the bridge creates this turbulence.

When writing the "headliner" for the post, I noticed this possibility of interpreting the sentence one way or the other : either it was the water that would freeze or it was the camera ... lol ! At -15 C, I keep the camera inside my jacket to keep it warm.

This river creates a show of its own, the color, the energy and the roar of the flow.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND WORDS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL !

Blue coloured rivers are one of your specialties, so to me it wasn't a standout feature this time - unlike the middle photo which tells an altogether new and different story

No "red-faced" emojis ... sorry ! LOL ! I knew the second picture would kill this aura of mystery around my river pictures ...

Best Regards

Terrific shots Richard! I really like this spot that you shoot with the snow. It contrasts so nicely with the deep blue water.
