Double Barred Finch
Lens: PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4. 5-5.6 ED DC AW Camera: Pentax K3 iii Photo Location: Local Neighbourhood ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/1250s Aperture: F11

I have sighted this species a small number of times around my house over the last 3-5 years (most often through my bedroom window on opening the curtains when first getting up in the mornings!) but never managed to get my camera(s) to it. Finally one recent afternoon, took the K3 iii with the 150-450mm plus Pentax 1.4x teleconvert, all on tripod to investigate some nearby chirpings, and immediately saw a small bird alight on the bare branches of a tree just over the fence in my next door neighbour's yard. Set down the tripod, trained the lens and was amazed to find that I had finally got this little blighter in my sights!
Lighting could have been better (it was around 5:20 in the afternoon, very overcast) and some attractive background would have been nice - but you take what you can get. And after waiting so long to get the camera on this species, it actually sat around and let me take a number of shots, even tolerated me picking up the tripod and moving to a better position! Not a briliant pic, but 1 more "bucket list" item finally ticked off!

Looks like a mind-meld between the photographer and photographee!
The double bars are surely evident; good shot that!
(Would be interesting to see the top side.)
Angky.

Good work Peter! Some of these little birds just don't want to give you much of an opportunity, but you put in the work and came up with a good capture.

Nice catch. As said, these small birds don't often stop long enough to obtain a shot. Good work in getting the capture.
