Hassayampa River Preserve
Lens: Sigma 170-500mm APO DG Camera: K-3 III Photo Location: Wickenberg, AZ
Posted By: phx.david, 01-08-2022, 01:18 PM

Received my Pentax 1.4x converter yesterday and had to give it a try. So far I'm pretty happy, it just really slows down an already fairly slow lens. There wasn't much going on, but as I was leaving I found some hummingbirds in the garden area by the entrance.

You got some nice closeups on this outing. Great colors and detail in all. Hummingbirds are really sharp. I have been using the 1.4 teleconverter with the 55-300 pm sometime and tried it with my Sigma 135-400 today. I wish that I could get some good light to see how it really performs. I haven't yet tried it on the Sigma 170-500. From your photos, I don't see much image degradation.

Thank you. I think it's going to be a nice tool in my bag, but it's going to have to be for sunny days only. I was really concerned about image degradation, but sharpness seems to be about the same and I was shooting at lower shutter speeds than I like to with the 170-500.
