They have recently taken to flying around my home area almost every late afternoon. Finally got a (hopefully?) half-way decent shot of them in flight. Background sky is a little "meh!): late afternoon, totally overcast.

Good capture of the birds in flight. You are right about the sky. It could have been lots better, but we don't always get blue skies. Focus looks great. Thanks for posting.

That is a really great shot, in my estimation.
Some kind of natural art sculpture!
And the sky's neutral off-white adds a sort of high-key backlit ambiance that the birds' under-body shadows use to good advantage.

Excellent capture! Although the overcast sky doesn't present much interest, the flip side is that the soft light prevented harsh shadows and allowed the details of the birds to show nicely.
