Orange Calendula with Orange Center
Lens: HD Pentax DA 16-85mm Camera: K10D Photo Location: My garden fence ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/2000s Aperture: F9.5

Some of my calendulas have black centers and some have centers that match the petals.
This one matches the petals--I'm wondering what is the difference...

Usually I don't take pictures of blooms in straight full sunlight because of intense shadows and white highlights.
In this case, I thought the shadows enhanced the image--some strange "vibratory" look.
So this one was done in full sun.
(But forgot to re-set my ISO!!)
Angky.
PS: Not sure why this image insists on loading at only 85% JPEG quality--which significantly reduces the detail and darkens the shadow area.
Oh well! Maybe someday I'll get something working with Flickr (if I ever get time to learn it)!

This is truly a wonderfully captured floral image. I wouldn't want to go any sharper than what you have achieved here. With flower captures you have to be a little discriminate and know when enough is enough, otherwise your subject will look like a dried out potato chip. You have done a great job with detail while maintaining that delicateness that Mother Nature intended.

Many thanks for the awesome treat.

Pretty flower in a nice shade of orange. I like the color variations and textures in the petals. The shade made this image more interesting.

Thank you, Sir!
The sharpening that I did on it was very minimal, so I'm glad that it turns out well in your estimation.
The posting, at 85%, lost detail in the pistils which were nicely detailed in the original. Also, it makes the petals look slightly rough instead of the original smoothness.
Thanks for your input--very helpful!
Angky.

That shade of orange really stands out in these flowers, doesn't it!
Thanks for your observation.
Angky.
