Fuzzy Head of Riparian Grass
Lens: HD-DA 55-300 Camera: K10D Photo Location: Sacramento Valley ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/180s Aperture: F5.8

Walking along an old irrigation levee right at sundown.
One of the last rays of golden colored sun hit this grass head.
(Now, having taken the shot, I have the task of finding out what kind it is! Why do I let my hobby make so much tiresome work for me???)

Was shot on the K10D with the HD DA 55-300 ED lens. Surprising sharpness from that combo!
Angky.

PS: (Wish it was posting at full 100% quality rather than 85%.)

Thanks for the suggestion on grass ID.
That might be what I want; I've had problems identifying grasses. I can do trees pretty well, but grasses aren't a strong point at all.
I need to get working on flickr. Have a site, but still learning how to use it.
Thanks for the note on the image!

The K10D and HD-DA 55-300 punched above their weight. Capturing those golden rays of sunshine at the right moment gives that grass seed head a wonderful glow and as you said, it's a surprisingly sharp capture. I've had my troubles uploading images also. For some reason, I can't get the image size quite right for upload. I guess I need to study the process a little more.

That 55-300 is just an astonishingly good lens for what it cost me.
In fact, I can't see any issues with it in most images I shoot.
As concerns uploading, I think you and I might have the same problem.
And I just got a note suggesting another way to do it, that I'll check out tomorrow (when I get time).
If it seems good, I'll let you know.

Thanks Angky. I'll be in Atlanta for a Volleyball tournament this weekend but will check in for your results.

Hope you get some good shots of the ball-game!
If it's a tournament, you'll be exhausted by the end of it!

Outstanding image Angky! You found the lighting that really makes grasses like this pop. I need to charge up the batteries for my K10D and get it out. I haven't used it in several years.

I think you might have a good time with your K10D.
I use the K1 when I want pristine details on a full-frame image. But I'm getting to where I almost prefer to pick up the K10 for any other image.
I think the big thing for me is simply the difference in weight and size.
But the ability of the CCD sensor to make a beautiful floral image makes it my camera of choice when I go after flowers.
But one more plus: the K10 is so much faster due simply to the very much smaller file size.
I record RAW files in the K10 with a JPEG image in about a third of the time it takes for the K1 to save just the one RAW file.
And I also enjoy the crisp quiet "kalick" of the K10 shutter, compared to the shutter-shock "kathunk" of the K1.
Of course, you already have the cropped sensor in your current camera, so it might not be as enjoyable of a change.

Nice photo. You don’t need much resolution to get the color right. It’s fine here. I am viewing on a cellphone so size isn’t an issue. The essence of the shot is there. Very good.

Thank you!
On your cellphone, the image should like pretty fine; I agree with you.
On my computer's monitor, the resolution degradation is noticeable, and I'm trying to learn how to make that better.
Thanks for letting me know that the image is a good image in terms of color and composition.
Glad to hear from you again.

Thank you, Jer.
I was a bit surprised that it turned out well.
This was shot at about 15 meters, or so, with the 55 - 300 lens.
An experiment that I didn't expect would turn out well, but it did!
Amazing lens!

Yes, indeed it did!
It was just a boring head of grass until that sun highlighted it with its evening colors, and against a darkly shaded bank.
Thanks for your note on it.
Angky.
