smc Pentax-M 28mm/f3.5
Posted By: kjao, 03-13-2007, 04:42 AM

Hi all,

After writing a review for smc Pentax-M 28mm/f3.5 yesterday, I took this lens out for a spin today. All in all, I am happy that I didn't sell this lens after I got FA28/2.8!!

All photos taken with DS, in raw, converted using Adobe raw converter and post-processed using PSE5.

Location: around Parkville campus, Melbourne University, Australia.

PS. is it just me or is there anyone else who feel that they are "more involved" with taking photos when using a manual focus lens?

cheers
Kenny

Great shots there, kjao!

I understand that feeling of more involvement with the MF lenses. I'll add to it and say I get more enjoyment shooting with them too.

My 50 is my favorite by far. The 135 comes next, then the fisheye. I use the 80-200 when I need to get in between the 50 and 135 or go longer, and I only use the kit when the space I'm shooting in is too tight for the 50.

With the 28/3.5, 43ltd, A50/1.7 and a soon to be purchased 85, I feel my kit is just about as good as it can get. It is a joy using the manual lenses. I find myself even using the 43 in manual.
Why would you ever sell a lens that gives you the kind of contrast you are getting.

Regards,

Alvin:

50mm is a little too long for walk-around lens on the digital bodies so I prefer 28mm. I totally agree with your comment about getting more enjoyment from shooting manual lenses!

I love my K135/2.5 too but it is a little heavy to carry around everyday but quality-wise, it is a top notch!

Ken:

Your kit is quite similar to my manual focus kit. I have got:
M28/3.5, M50/1.7, K85/1.8, M100/2.8, K135/2.5, M150/3.5, M200/4 (arriving soon).

The reason I was thinking of selling M28/3.5 was because I have acquired FA28/2.8 and been quite happy with that lens too and haven't been using M28/3.5 much.

cheers
Kenny
