Really nice job, Rob - pulling the brown bird away from a brown background. You 'da man.

Thanks Mike - luckily it decided to com out into the open where the sun hit the feathers.

Thanks Al - ironically they aren't common these days. I suspect that they were when they were named and before most of the forests they lived in were cleared. But they are very pretty!

Thanks Jer! I have other photos of the bird on a bitumen road where there's better contrast, but preferred a slightly more natural background. The road is one within the botanical gardens, so there's no traffic on it, happily!

Bronze is it!
Sure shows up prettily!
Looks like it must belong to the doves family.

Yes, the wings of these Pigeons in the sun are spectacular. There's quite a lot of native pigeon species in Australia. Many are rainforest birds and eat fruit. The Common Bronzewing prefers dry forest.

Thank you Tony!! My only disappointment is the concrete gutter, but it can't be helped. The Common Bronzewing is ironically uncommon in Canberra. I suspect their habit of feeding on the ground makes them more susceptible to cats and foxes.
