Grey Cat bird, Dumetella carolinensis

My favorite songbird. Drab Grey color with a rusty patch under their tail, they often stay in the undergrowth unless raiding a berry bush. They breed here in CT and migrate (mostly) for the winter south. Their name comes from one of their calls, which sounds like a cat mewing, but its their songs that are amazing. songs here.. I look forward to their return each spring here, we have a few pairs that breed in my yard. Looking forward to their return in the late spring.. Oddly enough theres often one or two here and there, usually along the coastline that stays year round. I shot a bunch of pics last year of one with snow around it and happened to find one at Hammonasette state Park (coastal) just this past weekend.

From February 2021.. D7200 X Tammy 200-500

First class, my friend! I'm impressed with how the bird is "framed" by the out of focus areas of the photo. Good stuff.

Good images. While the second image shows the birds details, the first gives it star billing. Clicked the link to listen. They do have amazing songs. Thanks for sharing.

Ooo...I haven't seen one of these in some time! Used to have one or two hanging around in the yard, probably in winter but I don't recall. Haven't seen them in a long time, thanks for the reminder!
