Up to 200,000 tons of wood chips at any one time are waiting for despatch overseas. Burnie Port , NW Tasmania.
Tasmania exports approx 750,000 tons of wood chips each year to Japan and China for paper production.

It all comes from plantation grown timber.

I always like shots showing the industry of an area. This is a nice shot of the conveyors or whatever they are called. I was in New Zealand a couple of years ago, and they had timbers stacked on the docks ready for export to China and Japan. I was told that the trees that they export grow much faster there than in other parts of the world. I wonder if it is a similar situation in Tasmania.

Interesting. Did not know the there was that amount of commerce in the export if wood chips. Nice shot of the product and equipment used in loading the product. This is a big product here also, but must of it goes to local paper mills. Thanks for the shot and information.

Interesting info you've given us.
I used to work in this industry in the Pacific Northwest of the USA many long years ago.
Fascinating to see it pictured again so many years later, and also so large in other places!
Angky.
